Every time I look up Kayden is picking up a book. She is really starting to read on her own. We have been reading lots and lots of Dr. Seuss books and some of them only have a few words on each page and Kayden is able to read each page all by herself. It amazes me how when she picks up a book she will not start reading until she has turned to the first page with print on it. She rarely picks up a book and just looks at the pictures anymore, she will make up a story to go along with each page which as a mother/teacher puts a huge smile on my face b/c she is showing the first steps of a beginning reader...We have also been working on Nursery Rhymes and Kayden has memorized, Jack and Jill, Humpty Dumpty, Little Miss Muffet, Hey Diddle Diddle, Hickory Dickory Dock, Where is Thumpkin, and Itsy Bitsy Spider. I have been to several workshops that have researched based ideas that state if a child knows all their nursery rhymes before the age of 4 they will be more successful in reading...
Today Kayden was so super cute before nap time, I asked her to go and pick out her books and I was doing some things in mommy and daddy's room and when I looked up I saw Kayden reading to Lucy in her cradle that we still have in our room that she use to sleep in when she was a baby, and which by the way has been in Mommy's family for years. Kayden read all 5 of her Dr. Seuss books to Lucy and mommy read a few more and then she was fast a sleep...Great job reading Kayden, mommy is so very proud of you...
Here are Kayden's favorite Dr. Seuss books for now...
Green Eggs and Ham
The Eye Book
Would You Rather be a Bullfrog?
One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
The Foot Book
